0

Senegal 2050 is the nation's ambitious long-term development agenda, designed to reshape Senegal's economic structure, foster sustainable growth, improve human capital, and leverage its strategic geographic position to become a regional hub for trade, innovation, and infrastructure. The vision aims for sovereignty, inclusive growth, and sustainable prosperity, with strategic objectives across four pillars: (1) Competitive Economy - developing growth drivers in competitive territorial hubs, fostering domestic financing, creating an attractive business environment, and accelerating digital transformation; (2) Human Capital - building high-quality education and vocational training, an accessible healthcare system, inclusive social protection, and effective employment policy; (3) Sustainable Development and Land Use - ensuring sustainable territorial development, promoting natural ecosystem management, driving a fair energy transition, and developing connectivity infrastructure; (4) Good Governance and African Commitment - strengthening the rule of law, reforming institutions and public administration, enhancing civic engagement, and reinforcing African integration. Under Senegal 2050, economic growth is expected to double in pace by 2050, with per capita income projected to triple compared to 2023 levels. Senegal is positioned as the 'Crossroads of Africa' with strategic access to over 400 million consumers through ECOWAS, AGOA with the United States, and the EBA agreement with the EU.

Current rice production stands at 1,525,464 tonnes of paddy rice (2023) with a 56% dependency rate and USD 499 million in imports (2023), against a potential market of USD 1.5 billion. Maize production is 495,571 tonnes (2023) with 64% dependency rate and USD 132 million imports, against a potential market of USD 1 billion. Groundnut production reached 1,675,329 tonnes (2023) with USD 116 million in exports. The program addresses the 30% loss of fruit and vegetables due to poor storage and aims to reduce import dependency.
