Senegal• West AfricaAgriculture & Agro-processing

Project Description

PRACAS is a national agricultural initiative to modernize agricultural practices, increase rice production, and achieve food sovereignty. Agriculture, livestock, and fisheries contribute 17.4% of Senegal's GDP (2023), with agricultural sub-sector growth of 7.6% in 2023 (8.5% average over 10 years). Current rice production stands at 1,525,464 tonnes of paddy rice (2023) with a 56% dependency rate and USD 499 million in imports (2023), against a potential market of USD 1.5 billion. Maize production is 495,571 tonnes (2023) with 64% dependency rate and USD 132 million imports, against a potential market of USD 1 billion. Groundnut production reached 1,675,329 tonnes (2023) with USD 116 million in exports. The program addresses the 30% loss of fruit and vegetables due to poor storage and aims to reduce import dependency.
