Project Description

A pilot 10 MWp floating solar power plant on the Isimba Reservoir, representing an innovative green energy project for Uganda. Floating solar technology involves mounting solar panels on floating structures on water bodies, offering advantages including reduced land use, improved panel efficiency due to cooling effects from water, and reduced water evaporation. The Isimba Reservoir, created by the Isimba Hydroelectric Dam on the Victoria Nile, provides an ideal location for this pilot project. The project aims to diversify Uganda's energy mix, add renewable generation capacity, and demonstrate the viability of floating solar technology in East Africa. This pilot could pave the way for larger-scale floating solar deployments across Uganda's many water bodies.
